Junk evolution Updates

After lots of heartfelt consideration, Junk E. has decided to operate out of one store location in South Bend.  So we said Good bye to our dear friends Keith & Brenda (and Willie) at the Old Creamery in Middlebury.    It's a great place to shop and I'm sure that we will still be there weekly for that reason!  It is definitely worth the trip.

The next item of importance is FIRST FRIDAY  April 2.  Our store will be open at 5PM until 9 PM.  We have lots of great new items we'll be showcasing for our theme.  SHOWER THE EART WITH KINDNESS.
This basket is getting pretty full! It's our "Greener Living Basket" and tickets go on sale this Friday.  Raffle tickets are $1.00 each and all the proceeds will be donated to the South Bend Unity Gardens.  You can help feed people fresh, organic produce!  Also on the side post you can find their wish list of items that you can donate by dropping them off at Junk Evolution~Carpenter Gothic.   It's a great way to give back to the community, and the drawing will take place on April 22 Earth Day!

New signs of Spring are popping up daily, so check back often.  And don't forget to get your hostess with the mostest,  a little gift for all the time and effort.  We have some great planters full of fresh, homegrown real live Easter Grass.  It always makes me smile.

Now,  it's time to relax!

EVERY NEW BEGINNING COMES FROM SOME OTHER BEGINNINGS END.

There's Junk in My Trunk!

Ok, so a typical day in the life of a junker goes something like this.  You wake up early and drink coffee, read the newspaper, scouring over sales etc.  Do your exercises so you can life some weight, and not hurt yourself.   Paint something before you leave home so it's dry by the time you return.  And venture out to all your favorite jaunts.  Oh, sorry you can't see this list, it's posted in black ink!

After you've filled your vehicle to capacity you have to find a place to put it.  This is always a challenge, since I don't have a warehouse.  It's my basement or the garage, (and the cars still have to fit!)

My basement-which right now is much, much fuller.

The before Junk Evolution dresser

The after Junk E. wine bar
Then we go a step farther and find all kinds of vintage, or retro accessories to match each and every item.       And in our spare time, we are dreaming up all kinds of new fun idea's and projects to share with you!

The Green, Green Glass of Home

I hope you all enjoyed St. Paddy's day, now it's on to celebrating the Easter Season!  If you haven't been in to shop, we have some green tips posted, one I will share with you.  Instead of buying Easter grass for your Easter baskets this year, think "natural or biodegradable".  We used shredded paper from our home shredder,  clean straw-from the barn, or moss.  And as soon as it comes up,  we'll have baskets and containers of natural grass.  Once again, think of what you already have around the house, and when you are done with it, it can be used to add to a compost pile or to mulch a houseplant.

And for dyeing your Eggs, no need to buy the kits, you probably already have everything you need right in your cupboards.  Set up mugs or bowls add 1 Tablespoon of vinegar to each and fill with boiling water, add liquid food coloring, a few drops of a different color to each bowl,  and don't forget red and blue make purple and so on.  Let cool (to be safe for children to use).

APRIL 2, 2010-First Friday we will have a new theme April Shower's...
Shower the Earth with Kindness
Hours for First Friday 5:00PM - 9:00 PM
Junk evolution is putting together a "Green Starter Kit"  packed with great items.  It will be on display on First Friday, and we will be selling raffle tickets for $1.00 each.  The drawing will take place on Earth Day (April 22).  All the proceeds will be donated to the South Bend Unity Gardens.  We will also be posting their wish list of items they are in need of.  So stay tuned for more idea's and information.

Flower Patch Farm Girl

Most of our follower's already know about Shannan, but if you don't then by all means check her blog for a daily dose of laughter, tears, and sunshine, or should I say LIFE.  I could write about mine, but it just wouldn't sound the same or be nearly as entertaining.
There are a few reasons I want you to go here www.flowerpatchfarmgirl.blogspot.com.  #1)  She will be traveling to a far away land to bring home a new family member, and I would like you all to remember her family in your thoughts and prayers.
#2) Because she posted some great photo's of our shop (she's also a very talented photographer).

We've had a great first week, and have been bringing in new items daily to keep things interesting.  Plus we are constantly rearranging the displays to give you new idea's for uses.

Thank you

Mere words cannot express our gratitude.  Many thanks to the people who came back (time and time again), and to those who traveled many miles to come, and all the first timers.  We are so blessed to have made your acquaintance!

Fewer and fewer Americans possess objects that have a patina, old furniture, grandparents' pots and pans-the used things, warm with generations of human touch...essential to a human landscape.             –Susan Sontag

We found some of these people!  People who love the history and quality, and patina and rust, they are truly the best kind of people.

Blue Sky and sunshine

This morning when I opened my shutter’s on the bathroom window I got that feeling that  takes my breath away.  Blue sky, sunshine, birds singing, frost covered trees bursting with new buds.  Gods masterpiece.  That guy....he never stops!  It’s something different everyday.  I'm always amazed!

Thats the feeling I got when I was 12 years old and my parents redid our (my twin sister Christine & my) bedroom.  We got the 60’s paneling and orange and red shag carpeting, and newly painted furniture.  Yes, we were rad.  Mom helped us place all our belongings on the new shelves, hang pictures and make up the beds.  Then I went and played and totally forgot about our “new” room, so when I walked in I got that feeling of awe that took my breath away, it really did.  So I went out and re-opened the door.  It didn’t happen the second time, but I never forgot the feeling.  I’m pretty certain that’s what made me go into Interior Design.  I love change.  Change is good, we all live for it.  We want the snow to change into spring, and then we change our clothes,  and so on and so forth.

So we will be celebrating the change from a small booth at an antique mall to a real live shop in South Bend.  Please share in this wonderful celebration of change this weekend.
