Right now I'm reading the book, Eat Pray Love, by Elizabeth Gilbert. While she is searching for herself in the book someone asks her what her word would be. Someone gave me my word for my birthday this year.
My dear friends, and partners Linda and Bernie gave me the sweetest gifts, most were found treasures near and dear to my heart but the most enlightening gift was a small book called Wabi Sabi. When I opened it, I asked Linda what it was and she exclaimed, "It's you!" Wabi Sabi is actually a lot of things, or should I say thoughts about the way you see things...impermanence, imperfection, simplicity, humility, sincerity, harmony, purity, tranquility, and contentment. It's about loving something for all it's flaws and imperfections. Changing things as the seasons change. Seeing beauty in everything. I know I have a ways to go but I do love the thought of it all, and will strive to get there. Thank you again, that's about the nicest thing anyone has ever said. So hopefully, with that little bit of information it will help you to understand our whole style of decorating. Because sometimes the simplest things can be beautiful if put on a pedestal.
