Orange Friday

Oh, my what a beautiful day when my poppies open.  I've even started taking time to just sit and enjoy the sunshine (a daily source of vitamin D) and the fruits of my labor-the gardens, while sipping chocolate mint tea (homegrown).  I also got 12 new pets yesterday-gold fish for my tiny pond.

Next Friday is the First Friday and we'll be doing a major re-haul to the shop, so mark your calendar and come join in the fun.  More details on the side-note.

Linda takes the cake!

Linda was so excited about this picture, she bought it and walked it to it's new home at Junk E behind the counter.  It's from the old Macri's bakery.  And boy have cakes come a very long way!  No ace of cakes here!  More like the big fat greek wedding.  We're not sure we can part with this masterpiece, but we may rent it!  Wouldn't it be fun to put your wedding party's cutout faces on the cake people?

Ok, now a few simple rules to live by...

Take time out of every day to create.
Get some exercise -it's ride your bike to work month!

Get your hands dirty-plant something and watch it grow.

Eat well,( and on a pretty vintage mix of dishes!)

And be good to yourself, a little pampering is good for your soul.
And don't forget to eat some cake!  Everything in moderation.
Have a great week!

A GOOD DAY TO DYE

I've been in the mood for a new summer color and was really hoping it would be this Simple Daisy blue that I love for summer.  When you only have a few choices of intense dye colors I don't always get the results I desire when I start mixing the colors.  Anyways it's a deep teal and it is a beautiful color non the less.  These new Rumspringa Wear will be in the shop this week, they are perfect for a day at the beach.

I also acquired a hugh amount of vintage buttons so I made some new Urban Twist neck gear.

I've also been busy getting ready for my youngest son's graduation party and a prom, and my daughter's birthday.

Weston is a budding young film maker and will be attending Ball State next Fall.
A sneak peak at Prom attire.  What I love about this kid is his sensible side (he wanted to own a suit instead of renting a tux) and he is his own person and has his own sense of style.  He loves vintage too!

Next project for Saturday was the garden-planting I truly try to live life in the greenest possible way, and that starts in the back yard.    I got a couple new beds thanks to my wonderful husband.   A great way to repurpose an old natural fiber rug is to use it under mulch to keep the weeds down.  So here it is before mulch.

And here it is after, with plants in place.

Bowling Balls add visual interest as yard art.
So, what did you do this weekend?

Last Friday

The junk queens in vintage attire.

Last Friday we celebrated Mother's and Children, and I didn't get one picture of all the children that came because we were so busy helping them make a special gift for their mothers.  We had at least 55 show up and were sorry that we ran out of supplies and had to turn some away.

A great selection of vintage straw handbags.

South Bend Unity Garden's

Mitch and Sara accepting the donations from our Green Basket Raffle for the Unity Garden's.  I learned so much about the project yesterday, and want to stay involved with this wonderful group.  On June 4 & 5 we are hosting the Unity Garden's for a plant sale!  Keep them in mind for your garden, and the community.  They are doing such beautiful things for South Bend.

Mother's Day is coming!

We had a great turn out for the Spring Art Walk last Saturday, and now we are getting ready for First Friday.  Out with the old and in with the new!

It's enlightening talking to our customers.  We all love what we grew up with, items that invoke a memory of "home" or our mother's.  Things that your mom wanted to give you but you didn't take because you thought it was "unsightly" now you crave.  Those are also the best gifts.  They don't have to cost a lot, it's just that they are special to you or that person. Include a little note with the gift, that tells them about that special memory.

We have the store stocked with some great vintage items for "Her".  Straw handbags from the 60's.  Jewelry etc

Bright colors for summer time.

Home theater.

Crafting time.

Sewing

And children.

Speaking of children...this First Friday is for Mother's and Children.  We are offering a free craft for children age 3 and up.  (A gift for mother's day).  We will help your children and you can shop for your mother's.  First Friday starts at 5:00-9:00 PM.
