Green Friday

Ok, so the picture doesn't really have anything to do with what I'm about to (excitedly) tell you, but for those of us in the great white north with the everlasting winter, I thought it would be a treat to dream with your eye's wide open!  This is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to in South America and the memory of that day is still engraved in all my senses.  It's also the greenest picture in my file, since that's really the point.

Every day is Earth Day.
Yesterday, while buying supplies at Snyder Paints in Goshen I discovered a brand spanking new line of paint that is made from recycled paint by a company called RepcoLite!  Take any brand in, as long as it's water based, and has not been kept in a storage area that freezes, and doesn't smell like mold.  They will give you vouchers for $1.00 per gallon, towards their new paint.
Then they send it to their plant where it's tested, and brought up to their standards of quality, and tinted to Pottery Barn Colors.  It's an eggshell finish-perfect for any walls.   The price per gallon is only $22.00.  How fantastic is that!?

So here's the deal, if you can't get to Goshen to recycle your paint (latex only) then drop it off when we're open and we'll do it for you.  You won't get the dollar, but your paint will be recycled!

Cha cha cha changes...

We've changed things up quite a bit since the beginning of the month, and it's time to
March onward!

 Tables come and tables go..

The French market will be packed up next week, so this is your last chance for awhile!
In March we're going RETRO-Mid century modern!
First Friday is next week, March 4th at 5pm until 9pm

Wouldn't this be sweet painted with a lite blue glaze and upholstered in cream damask?
 The Retro is moving in!

Just a little word of warning, next week the store will be a disaster with all the moving so please bear with us.We have so much to do in such a small amount of time!

Customers

I'm always telling our customers to take pictures of the items they purchased from our shop so we can share them with the world.  We have all kinds of customers and all ages.  Remember my invisible witch in the window from last October?
Three young guys ran into the store all out of breath, and asked if the bike was for sale.  They had been looking for a vintage bike for a music video and were thrilled to be able to purchase it.  They told me they lived in the Musician's coop on Wayne Street.
Then this week another group of young musicians from the coop came by and told me where to find the video that the bike was in.  What a wonderful group of talented young people!  For more information on the Coop go here http://www.themusicianscoop.com/south_bend_house.

Don't forget to turn off the music bar before you listen to the video!

Feel free to forward your pictures to chosmo79@hotmail.com to show us what you did with your items from junk evolution.

Living the Green Life

We're usually all about JUNK, but not when it comes to Food!
I think by now you know that we are living the whole green life and not just by re-using and recycling.  So I'm taking you into the kitchen today, where it all starts.  As consumers of food, something we have to buy every week,  it can really make an impact on the land fill by thinking about every single thing that we do in this room.   Eating whole foods is the #1 Rule and lets start with the first meal of the day Breakfast!

This is my instant breakfast:  Oatmeal with bananas and maple syrup.  All natural and ready in a minute!

Add one cup of water to a microwave safe bowl.

1/2 cup of regular oats

a sprinkling of cinnamon if you like
and one sliced banana

cover and microwave for one minute

add pure maple syrup
And there you have it,  Fruit and fiber, 100% natural.  You can add chopped apples, or if you're in a big hurry dried cranberries or raisins.
This bag of oats is to blurry to read, but if you buy in bulk you save lots of money.  What you don't get with this breakfast is a lot of individual sized packages that end up in the trash.  Society has made us really forget how easy basic food is. Things like: popcorn, iced tea, and even bread, just to name a few.  It does take planning ahead tho, so add bulk items to your grocery list!

Inspiration for February

Restoration Hardware is showing the trend towards repurposing, and weathered wood and french styled chairs, and black iron light fixtures.  The perfect mix! (It almost looks like they copied us!)

Our neutral dining set, looks great with grey, beige and black, silver or pretty much any color.
This magpie loves color and knows how to use it, she has inspired me for years and has a heart as big as Valentines day.  When we got this sofa in I couldn't resist!
This one's for you Tracy!

Don't be afraid to use color, sometimes a little pop makes just the right statement.
Flea Market Style is a yearly publication from another one my favorite inspiring ladies Ki Nausser Editor-in-Chief.  We now sell it at our shop!   We had our displays done before this arrived but couldn't believe how similar this room looks to the dining room above!
A little weathered wood looks great in the mix of painted furniture by Carpenter Gothic.
A French blue dresser.
These photo's were taken right before we opened for First Friday, so many of the items pictured here are long gone, however we do restock daily with items fresh out of the work shop.

Guest Post from Shannan

Hey, there! Flower Patch Farmgirl here.

Once or twice every year, I try to get out amongst the locals.

Oh, it feels so good.

I might be inclined to put on my zip-up boots and slap on a little shimmer.

I may even have a glass of champagne punch while I'm out. Who's to say?

All I know is, I owe a debt of gratitude to Char and Linda.

They lured me out again last Friday and it did this weary mama soul a whole lot of good.

As it turns out, a whole lotta people needed a Junk Fix.

The atmosphere was inviting. Maybe even a little bit electric.

(On account of the punch.)
I wandered the shop for over an hour and walked away wishing I'd had more time.

Char and Linda have an uncanny knack for knowing what we want.

Sometimes, we didn't even know that we wanted it, but they inspire confidence.
If they say it works - it works. And we want it.

Right now, they're buzzing over All Things French-inspired.

But they have something for everyone.

Take me for example.
It turns out, I was dying to wrap myself up in some candy-colored plaid.

In a woeful turn of events, I got wrapped up instead in appetizers and eye candy, and someone beat me to it.

Such a novice.
This rang my bell, too.
And then there was the jewelry!

I don't know where this originally came from, but I'm here to say that they may have grounds to take legal action against J Crew.

No offense, J Crew. You know I love you!

Have I ever mentioned my fondness for musical instruments?

And numbers?

And the perfect shade of green?

Here's what I love about Junk Evolution, in a nutshell: The experience is visual, it's tactile. They load me up on texture and gleam, they feed me. I walk away with a smile and a plan.

It's a walk in a dream, is what it is.
It's inspiring.
It's witty.
And it's just what I needed.

Thanks for the fun, girls. You do what you do so very well.

* Stop by and say hello! Char and Linda re-stock the shop daily, and next month's First Friday event will feature decor of the retro-mid century persuasion. Rumor has it the gals are already on the hunt for their costumes!

EVOLution

Since February is the month for love, I thought I would share this... One day when I was doodling I discovered there is Love in evolution, (it's backwards, but love is love, right?)  how profound is that?

We take an ugly duckling and lovingly restore her into a beautiful swan.

Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it
Reupholstered in a vintage blanket and feed sack.

Valentines day is Monday, and we have some great gift idea's and cards.  How do you call your lover boy?  Stop by to see how we do it!
