Rosie the Riveter

A new month, a new theme ...  INDUSTRIAL!  We'll kick it off this Friday September 5th through September 28, but the party starts this Friday from 5-9 so stop in for a Rosie cocktail.  

We'll be pairing the industrial look with mid-century furnishing at the beginning of the month and antiques at the end, just so you can see how very versatile it is.

In 1942, Pittsburgh artist J. Howard Miller was hired by the Westinghouse Company's War Production Coordinating Committee to create a series of posters for the war effort. One of these posters became the famous "We Can Do It!" image—an image that in later years would also be called "Rosie the Riveter", though it was never given this title during the war. Miller is thought to have based his "We Can Do It!" poster on a United Press International wire service photograph taken of Ann Arbor, Michigan, factory worker Geraldine Hoff (later Doyle), who was 17 and briefly working as a metal-stamping machine operator. The intent of the poster was to keep production up by boosting morale, not to recruit more women workers. It was shown only to Westinghouse employees in the Midwest during a two-week period in February 1943, then it disappeared for nearly four decades. During the war, the name "Rosie" was not associated with the image, and it was not about women's empowerment. It was only later, in the early 1980s, that the Miller poster was rediscovered and became famous, associated with feminism, and often mistakenly called "Rosie The Riveter".^{[30][31][32][33]}

Steampunk (our version)

You know how some people love to run because of the endorphin high they get?  Well I guess you could say that's how I feel when I make a transformation, and I'm loving this months theme "Steampunk" because it's so artsy.   I think this is some of our best stuff ever, truly I do!

Even if your home is traditional don't be afraid to add a little touch of industrial to the mix.  It creates interest and makes it feel sophisticated and comfortable, not to stuffy.  To much of any one thing is not good in my designs but I do love a good mix.  So here is a preview of the store for August.

Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction, fantasy, alternate history, and speculative fiction that came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s.^[1] Steampunk involves a setting where steam power is still widely used—usually the Victorian era Britain—that incorporates elements of either science fiction or fantasy. Works of steampunk often feature anachronistic technology or futuristic innovations as Victorians may have envisioned them; based on a Victorian perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, art, etc. This technology may include such fictional machines as those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne.
