I want to encourage people to attend the EnviorFest in Elkhart this weekend.  We will only have a small presence there because it happens to be the same weekend as my daughter's wedding.  It's a beautiful venue and businesses and people we love to support!

What Next? SAVE THE DATE!

Why Mother's Day of course!  Our big celebration will be First Friday to celebrate the most special lady in our lives.  We have a very fun night planned on May 6th, from 5-9 PM.  Our theme "Mama Drama" and to make it extra special we're hosting a junk prom, so wear your finery and come for the festivities.

For this event we've invited guest artist Jessica Flores.  She is designing these special cards just for the occasion, as well as some fabulous gift items from her textile studio.

To check out her talent, go to her web site.  http://jessicaflores.typepad.com/about.html

Also joining us for Friday and Saturday is Unity Gardens for their annual plant sale.  So plan ahead to buy your plants from them and help the cause. Last year they had everything from vegetables and flowers to herbs and shrubs.   If you are not familiar with the Unity Gardens, they plant food for people that don't have access to a garden.  Last count, they had over 34 plots.   For more information about the cause check out their web site:  http://theunitygardens.blogspot.com/

Center for History

Everyone has been coming into the shop to see our Christmas Decorations.  We do have one but it's not at the shop...

In typical junk evolution fashion, and in keeping with our December theme "Remembrance" we decorated a tree for the Center for History along with several other local businesses in South Bend.   For more information about the museum go here.

I'm just giving you a sneak peak, you'll have to visit the Center for History to see the whole tree!
And just a reminder that we will be decorated with all the vintage finery for First Friday December 3 and the Holiday Art Walk on December 4th.  No season before it's time!  We're still loving Thanksgiving this week!
We are thankful for all of you!

Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough.

SEASONS

At junk Evolution we enjoy the season's as they arrive, not months in advance.  If you shop at some of the big box stores you're tired of Christmas before it even arrives.  No, we savor every color, sound and smell that mother nature offers.  Today we gathered bittersweet for October 1st, First Friday.  Our theme for the month happens to be Bittersweet.   The store will be dancing with a flurry of fun.   Beautiful dining sets and tablescapes,  Nature in all her glory, and maybe even a witch or two!
We'll make it worth the wait for seasonal decor, so keep us in mind when you are looking for unique one of a kind items.

My husband and I took these pictures  a couple of years ago in Traverse City, MI.  One of our favorite weekend get-a-ways.

Live each season as it passes: breath the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit and resign yourself to the influences of each.

It's a Jungle in Here!

The big opening for the month of June started out with lots of plants from the Unity Garden's.  We hosted a fund raiser for them to raise money for supplies.  This organization grows food for people that may not have access to a yard, and they feed lots of hungry people.  For more information go here http://unitygardensinc.org/South_Bend_Gardens.html

It's not to late to donate.  We still have lots of free seeds to give away too!

One of our theme's for the month is SAFARI SO GOOD!

and some of our customer's thought it looked so inviting they just had to try it out!

Last Friday

The junk queens in vintage attire.

Last Friday we celebrated Mother's and Children, and I didn't get one picture of all the children that came because we were so busy helping them make a special gift for their mothers.  We had at least 55 show up and were sorry that we ran out of supplies and had to turn some away.

A great selection of vintage straw handbags.

My Little Town

Ok,  I know, North Carolina is beautiful, but so is my sweet little town of Middlebury, Indiana.  This was at the crack of dawn this morning,  on the way back from taking my son to school at 7 am and I was lucky enough to have my camera with me!  Beauty is everywhere, we just have to be open to seeing it, and take the time to enjoy it.
Tomorrow is Earth Day, and if you know me at all, then you know it's a very important day to me.  We once invited a whole bunch of people over to pick up trash, and they actually came and had a great time.
It's also the day we draw out a name to win the basket full of green living items at the shop.  So good luck to all of you who donated to a great cause.
Thanks for shopping at our store and blogging with us.  That alone tells me that you also care about this wonderful planet that we live on.   If you are interested in a "green living class" please shoot me an email.  When we get enough interest we would be happy to get that on the books.

April Showers

SHOWER THE EARTH WITH KINDNESS

Today is April 1st (April Fools Day) and many of you will be heading south for Spring Vacation.   Beautiful sand beaches and sunshine.  Remember to leave these beautiful spots better then when you got there.  When my children were small,  we would take them to the park (they loved the parks)  We are fortunate to have places like this in our communities, so we would practice daily acts of kindness, we called them "good deeds".  Before we would leave we would run around for a few minutes and pick up all the trash.  It made them feel so good, and instilled life lessons in them.  You are never to old to learn, or, to give back to the community and mother nature.

If you are staying in town, we hope to see you on First Friday.  One way you'll  be able to practice some "good deeds" is by buying raffle tickets to benefit the local Unity Garden's in South Bend and you may win an awesome  "Greener Living Basket".  You can read more about this on the side margin.
Don't be an April Fool!  Practice daily acts of kindness by recycling, reusing and up-cycling!

Blue Sky and sunshine

This morning when I opened my shutter’s on the bathroom window I got that feeling that  takes my breath away.  Blue sky, sunshine, birds singing, frost covered trees bursting with new buds.  Gods masterpiece.  That guy....he never stops!  It’s something different everyday.  I'm always amazed!

Thats the feeling I got when I was 12 years old and my parents redid our (my twin sister Christine & my) bedroom.  We got the 60’s paneling and orange and red shag carpeting, and newly painted furniture.  Yes, we were rad.  Mom helped us place all our belongings on the new shelves, hang pictures and make up the beds.  Then I went and played and totally forgot about our “new” room, so when I walked in I got that feeling of awe that took my breath away, it really did.  So I went out and re-opened the door.  It didn’t happen the second time, but I never forgot the feeling.  I’m pretty certain that’s what made me go into Interior Design.  I love change.  Change is good, we all live for it.  We want the snow to change into spring, and then we change our clothes,  and so on and so forth.

So we will be celebrating the change from a small booth at an antique mall to a real live shop in South Bend.  Please share in this wonderful celebration of change this weekend.

French Market~Valentines Bash

I wanted to post some photo's of the shop for you but my photo icon is missing for some reason, I'll try my best to paint the picture for you! First off we had the pleasure of meeting Heidi Prescott from the South Bend Tribune yesterday. She interviewed Linda and I and it will be in the  paper and online, sometime this weekend, with plenty of photo's of the shop. Secondly the pink background is going to change after Valentines Day along with the wall color of our new shop. Yes, that's right, we will take up permanent residence and will have our Grand opening on March 5 at 5:00 PM, part of the First Friday celebration.

If you follow Junk Evolution then you will know that the displays in South Bend are all new, we have been working very hard to create a plethora of new furniture items, in which many can be used in more than one way. If we sell lots of things on Friday, we will restock with new. So you may want to come back on Saturday! We left lots of room for the shoppers for easy browsing and mingling and today we are busy baking goodies to entice the taste buds. Hopefully all your senses will be filled with love! And if we don't get to see you this weekend Have a wonderfully romantic Valentines Day!
